On the third Saturday of September each year, volunteers around the world take part in the world’s biggest coastal cleanup- International Coastal Cleanup Day.
Pollution, particularly by plastic debris, is one of the biggest threats to the integrity of our ocean ecosystems, with about 8 million tons of plastic entering the world’s oceans each year. International Coastal Cleanup Day aims to raise awareness of the causes of ocean pollution and the effects that it has on wildlife.
Each year, as a part of our environmental responsibility program promoting the conservation and sustainable use of our resources, Lwandle contributes to this initiative by selecting a beach and cleaning it up for an afternoon by removing debris and rubbish from the shoreline. This year Muizenberg beach was selected, and employees had an enjoyable afternoon in the sun, where thirteen bags of rubbish were collected. We look forward to contributing to this important initiative for the years to come.
