Lwandle collects oceanographic data as input to the coastal studies conducted by consulting engineers for developments at South African coastal sites. Measurements of currents, waves, water levels, temperatures and biofouling are being made in approximately 10 m and 30 m water depth at each of the sites.
Nortek and Teledyne 600kHz Acoustic Wave and Current Profilers (AWACs) each fitted with a temperature sensor, high resolution pressure sensor and waves firmware is deployed at the sites in customised mooring systems.
RBR Temperature & salinity (T&C) strings comprising RBR XR 420CT conductivity and temperature loggers are deployed in 10 m and 30 m water depths at the sites. The strings measure temperature and salinity at two depths (near surface and near bottom).
RBR TGR-1050HT vented recording tide gauges are installed on suitable structures at suitable locations.
