EZASE-KASI, meaning ‘from the township’, is a national campaign that aims to boost township economies through promoting and empowering small businesses in townships across South Africa. The campaign was recently launched on the 26th of August 2016, and aims to encourage local companies and local people to support businesses in the townships such as restaurants, fashion designers and hair salons. On Fridays, companies supporting the campaign are invited to lunch in the townships, fill up at township petrol stations and to use other goods and services produced in townships.
At Maphinidi, the Lwandle staff were warmly welcomed by the EZASE-KASI staff and entertainment from a local DJ was provided. The atmosphere of the venue was great and there was a lovely view of Nyanga Township. The delicious lunch included braai meat, pap, ‘jeqe’ (steamed bread), salads and drinks.
Overall, a great time was had by all. Everyone really enjoyed the event, the food and the atmosphere, and Lwandle looks forward to supporting EZASE-KASI by attending more events like these in the future.
