Lwandle’s partnership with Lawhill Maritime Center got off to a successful start on Wednesday the 22 April 2015, with Lwandle employees presenting a career talk on marine science to grade 11 and 12 pupils.
The purpose of the career talk was to broaden students’ knowledge of marine science in general and expose them to the vast number of opportunities available in a career in this field. Time was spent explaining exactly what marine science is, where it can be studied in South Africa, and where potential job opportunities lie. Personal experiences of some of the Lwandle scientists were then shared, with lots of interesting pictures shown.
There was a flood of questions from pupils after the presentation, showing the interest generated by the talk. All in all a great success, and one in which we hope to be repeated in the years to come.
